Rescue Balm can also be used on minor cuts, scrapes and other skin irritations.
Yes, Rescue Balm is designed to be used as a spot treatment so it can be used on sensitive skin and babies from 3 months when applied as directed.
We do recommend a patch test before first use, and applying directly to bites, rather than over a large area of skin.
Rescue Balm works best when applied as soon as possible after you have been bitten. In most cases, if it is applied before you start scratching, Rescue Balm will provide immediate relief with no need to reapply.
If you are applying to an older bite that has already been scratched, you may need to reapply Rescue Balm a few times throughout the day to permanently stop the itch. The ointment is, however, made with several ingredients that promote skin repair so reapplying can also help to speed up the healing of older, irritated bites, in addition to stopping the itch.
If Rescue Balm is applied to fresh bites, it typically stops the itch in under a minute. Peppermint, clove and lavender oils create a cooling, soothing and numbing sensation that provides instant relief to prevent scratching. Then, the anti-inflammatory effects of rosemary and lavender help to reduce swelling and redness over about an hour.
If you are applying to an older bite that has already been scratched, Rescue Balm will still work, but you may find it needs to be reapplied a few times throughout the day to permanently stop the itch. If you red, swollen or broken skin from the bites, we also recommend continuing to reapply 1-2 times per day, even after the itch has stopped. Rescue Balm contains ingredients like vitamin E, tamanu and helichrysum that promote skin repair.
