Meet The Founder

“Living in Darwin, I hated spraying heavy duty insect repellent all over myself and my kids every day.

I decided to ditch the DEET and try every natural option out there.

Sadly, nothing worked well enough for Darwin's relentless conditions.

Determined to protect my family naturally, I studied cosmetic chemistry for 2 years and spent another 2 years testing my formulas with Kakadu fishermen in Australia's toughest climates.

After 37 different formulas, I finally perfected two repellents that actually work, are safe for everyone and wonderful to use.

Today, we're still a small family business with a clear mission: helping Aussie families rediscover the joy of the outdoors, naturally protected and DEET-free."

What Makes Good Riddance the Best?

Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of insect bites will Rescue Balm work for?

Rescue Balm soothes, numbs and reduces inflammation for most insect bites.

Our customers use it for quick relief from mosquitoes, midges, sandflies, march flies, horse flies, ants, bees, wasps, spiders and more.

It also works for minor cuts, scrapes and skin irritations.

Can Rescue Balm be used on sensitive skin & babies?

Yes, Rescue Balm is safe for sensitive skin and babies (3+ months) when used as a spot treatment.

We do recommend always doing a patch test before first use and apply directly to bites rather than over large areas.

How long will Rescue Balm stop the itch for?

Rescue Balm works best when applied as soon as possible after you have been bitten. Applied immediately after a bite, Rescue Balm typically provides one-time relief with no need to reapply.

For older, already-scratched bites, you may need to reapply a few times throughout the day. Bonus: these extra applications help speed up healing thanks to our skin-repairing ingredients.

How quickly does Rescue Balm work?

On fresh bites, Rescue Balm stops itching in under a minute. The peppermint, clove and lavender oils provide instant cooling relief, while rosemary and lavender reduce swelling and redness over the next hour.

For older, scratched bites, you may need to reapply throughout the day. For red, swollen or broken skin, continue applying 1-2 times daily even after itching stops to help skin repair (thanks to vitamin E, tamanu and helichrysum).

How long does it take to ship?

Orders before 2pm will be shipped the same day! For peak periods or during a sale, we aim for same day shipping, but could be 2-3 days before shipped.

Yes, we ship orders to many countries. To work out the shipping cost, select your chosen products and enter your address in the ‘Estimate Shipping’ area on the cart page. Click ‘Get a Quote’ and the freight options and costs should then be displayed.

Tropical vs Sensitive - which one should I get?

Both of our Good Riddance insect repellents work for up to 4 hours.

The shelf life of our Good Riddance insect repellents is 2 years from date of manufacture. All repellents will come with an expiry date in the crimp of the tubes, or under each 500ml bottle.

Can I use it with sunscreen?

Good Riddance does not interact with sunscreens. We recommend applying sunscreen first and then the Good Riddance Insect Repellent over the top.

Is Good Riddance Safe for Pets?

Our Good Riddance insect repellent range does NOT contain Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) oil, which is not recommended for use around dogs. Instead, it contains Lemon Scented Tea Tree, derived from a different plant species, which does not have the same adverse effects on dogs. Many of our customers use our Tropical repellent on their dogs to repel mosquitoes, midges, or sandflies by applying a small amount behind their ears and on their undercarriage, which is the main area where dogs are bitten. For dogs with particularly sensitive skin, we recommend using the Sensitive repellent, as it contains less-irritating essential oils suitable for sensitive skin. The Rescue Balm can also be used as a spot treatment on dogs to help relieve itch and inflammation caused by insect bites. We have received glowing reviews about the effectiveness of our range for dogs, and it has been stocked by a pet store in Darwin called “Aussie Pooch” for nearly five years without any adverse reactions.

Why do insect repellents need to be registered by the APVMA?

In Australia, all insect repellents must be approved by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). The APVMA is an Australian government regulatory body who manage the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical products in Australia. All insect repellents for human use, including chemical-based products and natural plant-based alternatives, like Good Riddance, are required by law to be registered with the APVMA before they can be sold in Australia. Products approved by the APVMA have been scientifically assessed as safe and effective.

Do you test your products on animals?

We are passionate advocates for animal protection and only include ingredients certified by Choose Cruelty Free to guarantee that our ingredients have never been tested on animals. The Good Riddance Tropical and Sensitive Insect Repellents have both undergone clinical and field trials where they were tested (on humans) to see if they repel mosquitoes and midges. We also test our repellents on mozzies, midges & sandflies (to determine its efficacy), and unfortunately they classify these as testing on animals. Otherwise, no.
