Guaranteed Mosquito Repellent that works

Updated 27th March 2024

Good Riddance Insect Repellent is a natural, DEET-free midge, sandfly and natural mosquito repellent designed to get you back outside, without the nasty chemicals and the pesky bites!

Our cosmetic chemist, Jeannie Lynch, developed the Good Riddance range to protect her family from mosquitoes and midges while living in tropical Darwin. She was concerned about the toxic effects of conventional insect repellents so decided to research and develop a natural alternative. There aren’t many mosquito repellent creams out there, but there’s a reason why we decided to do things a little differently!

About Good Riddance Insect Repellent

Our repellent cream base is rich with shea butter and beeswax. This helps prevent the essential oils from evaporating so you don’t need to reapply as often. It also provides a physical barrier against those pesky midges and sandflies!

Our flagship product, Good Riddance Tropical Insect Repellent contains a blend of essential oil actives that give it a fresh, vibrant citrus aroma with a woody undertone and notes of Australian natives. We believe it is the best mosquito repellent in Australia!

Following the success of our Tropical repellent, we developed the Good Riddance Sensitive range as a safe, natural repellent for babies, pregnancy and people with sensitive skin. Good Riddance Sensitive is the only repellent on the market specifically designed for sensitive skin. It proved to be just as effective as DEET as a midge repellent in our clinical trials, which we believe makes it the best midge and sandfly repellent in Australia! This unique product has a fresh, sweet floral aroma with herbaceous base notes and a hint of vanilla.

Best of all, our entire range was developed in conjunction with Top End fishermen, which means it has been tested in some of the toughest conditions in Australia, if not the world.

Our insect repellent is registered with the APVMA

But that wasn’t enough – we wanted to prove that our product could stand up against any DEET-filled product on the market. In 2018 we began the lengthy process of having our repellents registered with the APVMA. This process included extensive clinical testing in the lab and the field to ensure the products worked, were safe to use, and were shelf stable.

In 2020, both the Good Riddance Tropical and Sensitive ranges were approved for sale in Australia as registered repellents.

The Good Riddance range also includes our Rescue Balm – the perfect handy little helper for when the bugs catch you by surprise! This easy to apply balm has antibacterial properties and is designed to soothe insect bites, cuts, scrapes and other skin irritations. The base of the balm is rich with vitamin E to promote skin repair.

And for those looking to scent their homes naturally, our Good Riddance Tropical essential oil is available as a 100% pure essential oil blend. We also make a natural soy wax candle scented with the Good Riddance Tropical essential oil blend, which is great to take travelling, camping or to make sitting on your patio a little more enjoyable!

Australian made, natural, clinically tested and safe to use daily. We’d love you to try our products and feel the benefits of one of Australia’s leading insect repellents. We hope to help you soon.

We are very excited to have recently welcomed Ritchies IGAs to our network of stockists! Ritchies is one of Australia’s oldest supermarket chains with 70 locations around the country. Most of their stores are located in Victoria with a growing number throughout New South Wales and Queensland.

What customers say about our natural repellent

“By far the best product I’ve found to keep the mozzies and midges away. Was a lifesaver living in Darwin! Plus it smells amazing and makes your skin so smooth and soft after putting it on as it feels like moisturizer rather than sticky or oily sprays!” Erika H, Albury NSW

“My almost 4 year old went outside last night after his shower with no protection on at dusk with shorts on after some light rain, the midges were fierce and he came in itching like crazy with bites everywhere, we used the rescue balm he stopped itching and not a mark on his legs today. Such an amazing product,” Min

“Thanks Good Riddance for your brilliant product Good Riddance Insect Repellent. I was introduced to it on a recent job I did on the Tiwi Islands in Northern Australia. Not only did it stop the mosquitoes and midges in their tracks but it also cured the bites, within 2 days,” Anna H

“The best for stopping the bities that I have ever used and it is easy to apply and has a pleasant fragrance,” Carolyn H

We were thrilled to get this wonderful review from the highly regarded Caravanning with Kids website. “…we tried and tested the Good Riddance Mozzie & Midgie Mousse, Rescue Balm and a Good Riddance Outdoor Candle. We were set…come at us mozzies, we’ve a new weapon on our side!”

Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese Encephalitis is a mosquito-borne disease that has reared its head here in Australia these last few months. It’s a particularly serious disease. Please see here for our recommendations to avoid Japanese Encephalitis. The Victorian Government also has some excellent information here.

Tragically, there have now been seven recorded deaths in Australia from this mosquito-borne virus across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Northern Territory. Click here.

Murray Valley Encephalitis

Murray Valley Encephalitis is another mosquito-borne disease of concern. There have now been 3 recorded deaths of MVE this year after the virus was detected in humans for the first time in 11 years. While most people who contract Murray Valley Encephalitis will not experience any symptoms, it can be deadly. Unlike Japanese Encephalitis, there is no vaccine for Murray Valley Encephalitis.

Summer might be over, but the threat of Murray Valley Encephalitis still persists with over 500 schools in Northern VIC being advised to spray for mozzies and ensure students have access to repellents that ward off mosquitos. The Victorian Department of Health has some great information about MVE here.
