Can I use mosquito repellent when pregnant?

Yes, you absolutely can and should use mosquito repellent while pregnant – but you might want to consider which one you choose.

Some mosquito-borne viruses such as dengue fever are worsened by pregnancy and can even cause complications with the bub.

We don’t want you to take that risk, so it’s extra important to use repellent while on holidays in areas where mosquito-borne illnesses are prevalent.  And even in areas where these viruses aren’t a concern, mozzie bites are no fun at all - so slap on some repellent.

Many people are concerned about the toxicity of DEET, particularly while pregnant, and we absolutely agree.  However, some of the essential oils found in natural alternatives aren’t pregnancy-friendly either. It is important to choose a product specifically formulated for pregnancy.

Our Sensitive repellent is specially formulated to be safe during pregnancy – it doesn’t have any ingredients that are known to cause problems. Where there’s an ingredient that doesn’t have enough evidence behind it to conclusively say it’s fine in pregnancy, we’ve chosen to leave it out, just in case.

Of course, always seek medical advice if you have any concerns.
